Copyright, Copyleft: Intellectual Property in a Digital World
Have you ever spruced up your blog post with somebody’s Flickr image? Maybe you’re thinking about posting your acoustic cover of Robin Thicke to YouTube. If so, The Studio has the perfect panel discussion for you!
It’s no secret that the digital landscape is changing faster than intellectual property law, leaving many questions for creators, consumers, and licensees of copyrighted material: Who has the right to control a piece of information on the Web? What are our legal and ethical responsibilities when we republish and repurpose digital information? How can we ask critical and productive questions about intellectual property issues in our own projects?
To address these and other questions, The Digital Studio for Public Arts & Humanities is hosting a panel on Thursday, September 26, 4:00 – 5:00pm in the Old Capitol Museum Senate Chambers. Three experts on different facets of intellectual property will speak: Kembrew McLeod, Professor of Communication Studies; Nicholas Johnson, UI College of Law Professor and former FCC Commissioner; and Paul Soderdahl, Associate University Librarian for Information Technology.
The panel will be moderated by Jim Elmborg, Professor of Library and Information Science.
