    This workshop will introduce participants to the basics of network analysis. Specific focus is given to importing and manipulating network data, network visualization, and calculating basic network statistics (e.g., density, centrality). This is an introductory workshop appropriate for those with only basic familiarity with R. Example code will be provided.

    The workshop will discuss research data resources that are available through the University of Iowa, specifically the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) and the Central Plains Research Data Center (CPRDC). There will be an overview of each resource including what types of data are available followed by a demonstration of how to navigate and search for data.

    This workshop aims to cover a basic introduction to the R programming language. Participants will be introduced to the RStudio interface, syntax, script files, and basic functions (e.g., opening a dataset, summary statistics, etc.). In addition, participants will also learn how to manage single and multiple datasets. This is an introductory workshop appropriate for those with limited or no familiarity with R. Example code will be provided.

    In this workshop, we will be using Pandas and Scikit-Learn packages to do data mining on a bunch of classic data sets. Specifically, we will walk through (i) data preprocessing (cleaning, transformation, and visualization), (ii) cross validation for hyperparameter searching; (iii) result interpretations and presentations. Example codes will be provided. Please take your laptop with you for hands-on exercises.
