9/11/01: Inside the President's Bunker

Lieutenant Colonel Robert J. Darling spoke on the University of Iowa campus on Tuesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. in the Senate Chamber in the Old Capitol Museum. His presentation described the enormity of the crisis leadership decisions made on behalf of all Americans during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Darling provided his military expertise and was a liaison between the Vice President, National Security Advisor and the Pentagon on that fateful day. He received real-time information from numerous government agencies and worked directly with the National Command Authority in responding to the tragedy. His book, 24 Hours Inside the President's Bunker, 9/11/01: The White House, further illustrates his participation in protecting the nation during the worst attacks in our history.

In addition to his military and literary accomplishments, Darling earned his MBA in Financial Management at the Naval Postgraduate School, served as Program Manager for the Chief of Naval Operations supporting the Department of the Navy Flying Hour Program, and is the President and CEO of Quantitative Analytics, LLC in Stafford, Virginia.

Forkenbrock Series on Public Policy
The Forkenbrock Series provides a forum for dialogue about policy areas from applied, academic, and interdisciplinary perspectives. The series was established in honor of David Forkenbrock, a nationally recognized transportation researcher. Dr. Forkenbrock established the Public Policy Center at the University of Iowa in 1987 and directed the Center until 2007. His vision was to enable public and private sector decision makers to work with faculty, staff, and student researchers to explore solutions to complex problems related to the public interest.
