Robert Berntsen

Governor Chet Culver appointed Rob Berntsen to serve as Member and Chair of the Iowa Utilities Board in 2009. Mr. Berntsen began working for the State of Iowa in the Secretary of State’s Office, and eventually was named Deputy Secretary of State. Mr. Berntsen is also a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves JAG Corps, and in 2005 was deployed to Iraq where he served as Chief of Administrative Law for the 3rd COSCOM. He completed his Iraq service in 2006. Before joining the IUB, Mr. Berntsen served as corporate counsel for an energy utility holding company based in Evansville, Indiana. He graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law, and holds a BS from Georgetown University. Berntsen is a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and will serve on several NARUC committees in his new position as IUB Chair.
