Preventive care

Children with special needs were more likely to have had a preventive health care visit in the previous year. Over three-quarters (76%) of children without special needs in Iowa had a preventive visit in the previous year, compared to 82 percent of CSHCN. Children with special needs were also more likely to have received anticipatory guidance (39% vs 26%), defined as whether the parent had received information about seat belts, car seats, bicycle safety or nutrition counseling, depending on the age of the child.
