Specialty care

Sixty percent of CSHCN reported needing a specialist in the previous year compared to 23% of children without special needs. CSHCN were also more likely to have had a problem getting specialty care. About one-quarter of CSHCN had a problem getting care, and among those 12 percent reported having a 'big' problem. Eleven percent of children without special health care needs reported that getting specialty care was a problem, and among those, two percent reported it to be a 'big' problem.
