The study, "Demographic Characteristics, Care, and Outcomes for Children with Oral Clefts in Three States Using Participants from the National Birth Defects Prevention Study," appeared in The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal and evaluates the differences and the outcomes of care for children with oral clefts among population-based samples in Arkansas, Iowa and New York. Researchers considered type of medical care children received, overall health status, and how pleased mothers were with their child's appearance. Peter Damiano, Margaret Tyler, Paul Romitti, Charlotte Druschel, April Austin, Whitney Burnett, Sara Kizelnik-Freilich, and James Robbins authored the article.
