Recession Aggravates Underemployment

While unemployment figures are slowly improving, the numbers may be deceiving. In a recent Iowa City Press-Citizen article, ISRC Director Kevin Leicht pointed out that the unemployment rate does not reflect the number of workers who have grown discouraged and stopped looking for work, or those who are underemployed. Leicht says that underemployed workers form a category that is "often overlooked because of the assumption that if someone has a job, they are doing fine."
