Article on Primary Care Providers and Practice Locations in JADA

Health researcher Susan McKernan, with Ray Kuthy and Adweta Joshi, have an article in the online issue of JADA this month called Primary Care Providers and Practice Locations: Examining the Relationships. The group looked at the geographical distribution of primary care dentists, physicians and pharmacists to determine if a spatial pattern existed between provider types across cities in Iowa. 

The authors analyzed practice locations of primary care providers at the city and county levels in Iowa for 2000 and 2010. The results found that pharmacists are more prevelant than physicians or dentists. It is possible that the results may be able to offer new or relocating dentists a competitive opportunity for practice.
