Corinne Peek-Asa, a PPC researcher and the director of the UI Injury Prevention Research Center, commented in an article about the rate of injury deaths in Iowa. The piece was a response to a recent report by Peek-Asa and others that indicates Iowa currently has the 12th-lowest rate in the nation for such deaths. According to the report, there is plenty of room for improvement. “It’s a mixed practice for Iowans,” said Peek-Asa, “Iowans have a good infrastructure, a great trauma system and a thoughtful government. But we are not leaders in all aspects of public health, especially prevention of family violence, and we are all over the place on transportation issues like helmet laws.”
