Mark Berg, Director of the PPC’s Crime and Justice Policy Research Program and Associate Professor in the UI Department of Sociology and Criminology, provided closing remarks at the 2019 Fall Conference of the Iowa Corrections Association (ICA) in Riverside, Iowa on October 4th. The ICA is a professional organization aimed at shaping the future of corrections in Iowa. Its 2019 Fall Conference brought together over 100 of its members to receive specialized training, network across districts, and participate in forums on innovative correctional topics. Professor Berg closed the conference with some recommendations and points of caution when navigating the research literature on corrections. He discussed the deep impact of research on correctional policy, while emphasizing the need to review the research with a critical eye.
