Damiano Emcees Distinguished Veterans Awards Ceremony

Harold "Hal" Jackson accepts his award on Thursday at the Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Awards. Jackson servied in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. After his service Jackson became a pharmacist and worked with the University of Iowa Collge of Pharmacy.

Public Policy Center director Peter Damiano served as the master of ceremonies for the fifth annual Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Awards ceremony on Thursday, November 14. Six veterans with Hawkeye connections were honored with the award this year, which recognizes honorable service, military accomplishments, and service to the community.

Damiano has been an active supporter of the University of Iowa Military and Veteran Student Services, hosting an annual fundraiser for them, at which his band, HomeBrewed, is the headliner. Funds have contributed to the development of a learning center for UI student veterans, as well as a student veteran job placement initiative. The next fundraiser will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Eagles Club in Iowa City.

Damiano served as a staff dental officer for the US Public Health Service, Indian Health Service, in Shiprock, New Mexico from 1986 to 1988.
