Rogers, Sukalski, and Berg Track COVID-19 and Iowa’s Correctional Population

Body

Ethan Rogers, Research Associate for the Crime and Justice Policy Research Program, Alex Sukalski, Senior Application Developer, and Mark Berg, Director of the Crime and Justice Policy Research Program, have developed a webpage to track the statistics, news, and policy decisions relevant to the impact of COVID-19 on Iowa’s state prisons and county jails.

One of the main features of this page will be up-to-date visualizations of some of the current patterns and trends of COVID-19 cases, prison and jail populations, and other correctional data. For example, you can currently find a map of COVID-19 and state prisons across Iowa. Trend figures will be coming soon.

Other features of this page include:

  • Policy Timeline - A summary of changes made by the Iowa Supreme Court, the Iowa Department of Corrections, and other agencies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Related News - A list of local, state, and regional news that discusses the impact of COVID-19 on criminal justice agencies and correctional populations.
  • Additional Resources - A series of informational links to assist policy makers and practitioners respond to COVID-19.

Please visit the website for regular updates and contact Ethan Rogers with any corrections or news to share.
