Ballot Basics: Voting Matters

The Public Policy Center is proud to support this lecture series hosted by the League of Women Voters Johnson County.

This in-person program is first in a three-part lecture series, presented by Travis Weipert, Johnson County Auditor, and Kati McVay, Inside Out Reentry Community coordinator.

Mr. Weipert is a lifelong Iowan, raised along the Mississippi River in Marquette, Iowa. He received a BS in business administration from Mount Mercy University. He worked as an accountant at AEGON Asset Management before becoming Johnson County Auditor in 2012, currently serving his third term.

As Inside Out Reentry Service Coordination, Ms. McVay assists members find stable and secure housing, mental health services, substance use treatment and medication management, and employment or vocational training. She is an advocate for members' rights. previously, she worked in social services as a supportive housing case manager for disabled and homeless clients to help them overcome the highest and most difficult barriers.

The League of Women Voters Johnson County is a nonpartisan political organization founded in 1920 and dedicated to keeping an informed electorate through advocacy and community events. The local League is a member of the National League of Women Voters, consisting of 50 state Leagues and 803 local chapters, and a member of the Iowa League of Women Voters. In 2020 and 2021, local League members commemorated the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment and the founding of the League.
