"Crossing Roads with Peers and Parents in an Immersive, Interactive Pedestrian Simulator"

April 22, 2015
3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
3220 Seamans Center,

Crossing roads safely requires the integration of appropriate gap selection and coordination of movement and is influenced by a variety of factors, such as age and whether crossing alone or with others. As we age, we begin to gain more competence in these skills. In addition, choosing an appropriate gap and coordinating one’s movements when alone is different than when crossing with a partner. Using simulator technology, the present experiments investigate differences in road crossing performance in adults and children aged 6-, 8-, 10- and 12-years-old, as well as differences when crossing roads alone or as part of a pair.
