Scraping in Python
Zhiya Zuo
March 15, 12:30pm - 2:20pm
C208 Pappajohn Business Building

In this workshop, we will talk about different ways of web data retrieval using Python. In the first part, we will retrieve data using well-written application programming interfaces (APIs). We will go through the common procedure of applying for API keys, finding well-written related packages, and parse JSON/XML outputs. In the second part, we will manually scrape data given a webpage. If there's enough time, we will also cover scraping data from webpages where javascript is used for dynamic content loading.

Some experience in Python is preferred but not required. If needed, we will help you set up your laptop so that you can run the provided code snippets without trouble.
