Patient Centered Medical Home: Featuring the College of Public Health's Hansen Leadership Award and Distinguished Lecture

September 18, 2009
8:45 AM – 3:20 PM
Marriott Hotel and Conference Center Coralville, Iowa

This symposium is a collaborative effort of the University of Iowa’s Public Policy Center Forkenbrock Series and the College of Public Health’s Hansen Award Lecture. It has been designed to bring together the Iowa health community to learn about, and discuss strategies to achieve, patient-centered medical homes. The one-day symposium will include background and national perspectives, as well as examples of current practice. Special attention will be focused on redesign, reimbursement and incentives in Iowa.

The Patient-Centered Medical Home concept is an attempt to improve health in the United States by providing comprehensive, high-quality health care. The model provides for a constellation of services provided by a ‘medical home,’ including a personal physician and coordinated and integrated care services.

The Forkenbrock Series provides a forum for dialogue about policy areas from applied, academic, and interdisciplinary perspectives. The series was established in honor of David Forkenbrock, a nationally recognized transportation researcher. Dr. Forkenbrock established the Public Policy Center at the University of Iowa in 1987 and directed the Center until 2007. His vision was to enable public and private sector decision makers to work with faculty, staff, and student researchers to explore solutions to complex problems related to the public interest.
