Tim McBride presented, "Health insurance coverage in a post-election landscape," at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in 106 Gilmore Hall as part of the Public Policy Center's Run Up to the 2016 Election series. McBride's lecture was co-sponsored by the Department of Health Management and Policy in the UI College of Public Health.

McBride is an influential health policy analyst and health economist shaping the national agenda on the uninsured and health insurance markets, rural health care, health reform, Medicare and Medicaid policy, long-term care, and health economics.

In addition to his scholarly publications in leading journals, McBride completed a book (co-edited with Debra Haire-Joshu, published in 2012) on Transdisciplinary Public Health: Education, Research and Practice, as well as a collection of policy briefs, policy reports and other policy products that have had an important impact on the national and state policy debate.

McBride was the first Associate Dean for Public Health at Washington University, leading the initial development of the Brown School’s Masters of Public Health (MPH) program to accreditation in 2011. In addition, he led the creation of the first health policy program at Saint Louis University, and held other academic leadership roles at Saint Louis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

For the last two decades, McBride has been active in working with the U.S. Congress and state policymakers, providing policy advice on a regular basis on health reform, Medicare, Medicaid, and rural health policy. He is a member of the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) Health Panel, which for 20 years has been providing advice on rural health issues to the U.S. Congress and other national policymakers.

McBride, a member of several national committees and Boards,  is currently serving as Chair of the MOHealthNET Oversight Committee, which serves in an advisory role for the state of Missouri’s Medicaid program. In 2012, McBride was awarded the Outstanding Rural Health Researcher of the year by the National Rural Health Association, was named a “Health Care Hero” by the St. Louis Business Journal in 2007, and the “Teacher of the Year” by the University of Wisconsin medical management program in 1998.

The Forkenbrock Series provides a forum for dialogue about policy areas from applied, academic, and interdisciplinary perspectives. The series was established in honor of David Forkenbrock, a nationally recognized transportation researcher. Dr. Forkenbrock established the Public Policy Center at the University of Iowa in 1987 and directed the Center until 2007. His vision was to enable public and private sector decision makers to work with faculty, staff, and student researchers to explore solutions to complex problems related to the public interest.
