James Wo

Professor Wo’s research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of criminology, urban sociology, and planning and public affairs. His primary research agenda involves examining the spatial distribution of crime as well as the timing by which the risk for crime changes within places (e.g., hours of the day, seasons of the year, and many years). His published research links crime in place to a multitude of social ecological factors, including land uses, community organizations, topography, walkability, and ethnic heterogeneity, to name a few. He has published substantive work in such journals as Criminology, Justice Quarterly, British Journal of Criminology, Crime & Delinquency, Social Science Research, PLOS One, and Journal of Urban Affairs.
