Travel Impacts of Rising Fuel Prices

How are people changing their behavior in response to the increase in fuel prices? A new TRP study is looking at a potentially fascinating impact of high prices on passenger and commercial vehicle travel behavior. Trade journals are reporting that trucking companies are requiring drivers to reduce their speed in order to conserve fuel. Since crash severity is related to speed, it is likely that these lower speed requirements will result in fewer and less severe crashes. TRP will explore whether this safety gain has occurred.
