Bio

Joe Bolkcom is currently serving in his fourth term in the Iowa Senate. He was first elected to the Senate in 1998. He previously served for six years (1993‐1998) on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. Senator Bolkcom was elected a Senate Majority Whip for the 2013 and 2014 legislative sessions. He is the chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. Senator Bolkcom serves on the Environment and Energy Independence and the Natural Resources Committees. He has been actively involved in environmental advocacy work for more than 25 years. He has worked on energy, air quality, solid waste, clean water, and alternative transportation issues. He is employed as the Outreach and Community Education Director at the University of Iowa Center for Global and Regional Environmental Research and the Iowa Flood Center.
