Data Science Institute: Introduction to R
This introductory course in R will begin by covering the basic data and programming structures of the R language. According to the interest and time available, subsequent topics will include linear algebra routines, data visualization, enhancing computational performance and fundamental statistical procedures. Data analyses will be a fundamental part of the course.
The workshop is a part of the Data Science Institute, a collaborative effort between the Iowa Social Science Research Center (ISRC) and the Iowa Informatics Initiative (UI3). The institute will teach participants about the basic building blocks of coding as applied in the fields of the biological, physical, social sciences, and digital humanities. We welcome faculty, staff, post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students interested in building new skills in informatics. The topics for 2017 include introductions to the Python and R programming languages, geospatial analysis and geovisualization, computational text analysis, and network analysis. Faculty from UI3, computer science, management science and social science will teach the courses in the new Informatics space in the College of Public Health Building on campus.
