Using Evidence-Based Practices: A Webinar for Public Health Practitioners & Community Partners

January 12, 2017
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Description: Over the past decade, there has been increasing emphasis on evidence-based public health, and many state and national funders call for evidence-based health interventions. However, there are barriers to wider implementation, such as lack of familiarity with the concept and under-developed tools to apply it. This webinar seeks to improve the ability of the public health workforce to conduct evidence-based public health programs. Experienced faculty from the University of Iowa Prevention Research Center will re-view the concepts underlying evidence-based public health, identify sources of existing interventions and programs, provide a tool for evaluating the strength of evidence and analyzing fit with community character-istics, and discuss organizational context and the decision-making process.

Target Audience: Staff of local health departments, community-based organizations, hospitals, clinics, and schools.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the concepts underlying evidence-based public health
  2. Describe the process of selecting evidence-based interventions and other programs for local use
  3. Analyze potential barriers to successful implementation of evidence-based practices
