Health Policy researcher Natoshia Askelson was a guest on IPR's River to River on Tuesday, February 26. The show addressed "How Education Fits Into the Poverty Trap," and examined the disparities among black, Hispanic and white Iowans, barriers to childrens' education, and how low educational achievement can lead to low income, thus perpetuating poverty.

Askelson discussed how inadequate nutrition can affect a child's behavior in school, ability to learn and pay attention, and the stigmas some children experience when participating in programs such as the school breakfast program.  To hear the full interview, click here.
