Heeren Presents Poster at AcademyHealth Conference

Research Assistant Tessa Heeren presented a poster at the AcademyHealth National Health Policy Conference, January 30-31 in Washington DC. 

Heeren's poster is based on a research project conducted over the summer as part of the Minority Health and Health Disparities International Research and Training (MHIRT) program at the Cluj School of Public Health in Romania. The study addressed the gap between health policy research and application in the policymaking process. The systematic review collected articles that examined how (if at all) public health research has influenced policy decision-making and implementation in Europe, including the identification of barriers and facilitators in cross-sector collaboration.

Said Heeren about the conference, “My poster presentation was about the use of evidence to inform European policymaking decisions, so gathering feedback and insights from people who work on a national scope and in the Washington, DC setting was perfect. Along with learning more about my own research area, I heard from investors, doctors, journalists, researchers, and policymakers about all the forces shaping the future of healthcare and health policy. Attending and presenting at the AcademyHealth Conference was an amazing opportunity, and I’m excited to apply a broader understanding of the health landscape to my work at the PPC.”

The AcademyHealth National Health Policy Conference (NHPC) provides an extensive outlook on the nation’s health policy agenda for the year ahead. For two days, the nation’s leading health care decision-makers and policy leaders use the existing evidence base to provide clarity on the most critical health care issues and immediate policy priorities in United States health care. This year's conference theme was, "A First Look at the Evidence, Politics and Priorities Shaping Health Policy in 2017."
