During the Fall 2017 semester, the Public Policy Center (PPC) presented a new, community-focused series of events called Wonk Wednesdays. Each month a different policy topic from the PPC's various research areas was presented at the Iowa City Public Library. These events were free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, Dave Cwiertny, director of the PPC's Environmental Policy Research Program and associate professor of civil and environmental engineering in the UI College of Engineering, talked about his year in Washington, D.C., serving as a staff member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

On Wednesday, October 18, Rene Rocha, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Researcher, PPC Politics and Policy Research Program, moderated a panel of local experts in a discussion of Understanding Immigration Policy During the Trump Era.

On Wednesday, November 15, Dr. Peter Damiano, Professor in the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry, UI College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics, and Director of the Public Policy Center and its Health Policy Research Program, posed the question, "Repeal, Replace, or Repair?" in a discussion of the Affordable Care Act.
