Body

Melanie speaks Marshallese, a Micronesian language, and has taught in the Marshall Islands, as well as in Marshallese communities in the United States. She's currently in the LCLE program with a focus on multilingual education. Her research interests include translanguaging, heritage languages, and language policy in education.

"I would like to create curriculum and assessment for Marshallese heritage language classes for credit in schools for Marshallese communities in the US. I see my work or research to be in line with other language revitalization efforts, dual language programs, heritage Spanish language classes, and content instruction in ELL programs."

Fun Fact: Melanie is the editor for Chikin Melele, a Marshallese bilingual newspaper based out of Arkansas!
