Former Political Operative Norman Sherman Visits PPC

Body

The PPC was glad to host Norman Sherman on Oct. 19 for a lunchtime conversation about his years as a political operative in Minnesota and nationally.

Mr. Sherman told the group about the rather haphazard way in which he ended up as Vice President Hubert Humphrey's press secretary, their experiences at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and several other tales illustrating how the two parties still worked together in Congress to get things done - including the Civil Rights Act. He shared with the group a book of photographs he collected from the period, and his memoir, "From Nowhere to Somewhere - My Political Journey." Mr. Sherman, who turned 95 on the day he was here, still writes a column for The Gazette and lives in Coralville, Iowa.
