Community Engaged Learning with Refugees and Immigrants in Iowa

February 11, 2020
2:00 PM – 3:15 PM
Iowa City City Hall - Council Chamber

Immigration remains a key topic on campus, as well as in Iowa today. To shed light on that issue, a new course this spring, “Community Engaged Learning with Refugees and Immigrants in Iowa,” will present a panel composed of city and county officials who will discuss how the Iowa City area welcomes and supports refugees and immigrants. The panel will include council member Mazahir Salih, City of Iowa City Mayor Pro Tem (Sudan); Joan Vanden Berg, ICCSD Youth and Family Development Coordinator; Geoff Fruin, City of Iowa City City Manager; Rod Sullivan, Chair, Johnson County Board of Supervisors; and Jody Matherly, City of Iowa City Chief of Police.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Dragana Petic at dragana-petic@uiowa.edu.
