Leicht Talks to AMERICORP Volunteers About Poverty in America

Body

ISRC Director Kevin Leicht provided AMERICORP volunteers with insights into the problems associated with tracking, studying and eliminating poverty in the United States at the AMERICORP annual Human Rights Day Forum, Tuesday, September 14th. Topics discussed the fact that 1 in 5 American full-time workers does not make a wage sufficient to live above the poverty line, that during the current recession, over 40 million people (one in eight Americans) is on food stamps, and that poverty and unemployment numbers in the U.S. would be much worse if we counted the incarcerated.
