Suyun Ma, PPC transportation researcher and PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering, won the best graduate poster award at the 10th annual Research Open House hosted by the UI College of Engineering. Her work, “The Role of Neighborhood Street Network Pattern in Daily Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT),” looks at the effects of street density and connectivity measures, socioeconomic characteristics, and time on people’s daily driving.

In addition, Ma's paper Multilevel Mixed Effects Analysis of Driving Behavior of Participants of the National Evaluation of a Mileage-based Road User Charge Study recently won the third place prize at the 2012 Jakobsen Conference. This study focuses on driving elasticity with respect to fuel price on a daily basis.
