Wehby's Mask Mandate Study Shared Worldwide

Body

George Wehby, senior faculty affiliate in the Health Policy Research Program, co-authored a study on mask mandate effectiveness that has been shared worldwide and given a high Altmetric Attention Score. The Altmetric score is a weighted count of all the online attention found for an individual research output.

The study, co-authored by Wei Lyu, a graduate research assistant in the Department of Health Management and Policy in the College of Public Health, garnered 10,127 points on its Altmetric score, with 10,350 tweets, 139 citations in less than a year, and 93 percent of tweets coming from the public. The score demonstrates how eager consumers were to understand what works to protect people from the spread of COVID-19.
