Anthony Weighs in on Iowa City's South District Zoning Plans

Plans to re-zone and develop hundreds of acres of land in the South District of Iowa City passed through the Planning and Zoning Commision, heading toward the next phase with the City Council. Jerry Anthony, research fellow in the Social and Education Policy Research Program and associate professor in the School of Planning and Public Affairs, was featured in an article discussing the effects of the potential re-zoning and development on the area. Anthony suggested that the risk of gentrification was very low and that the plan selected a good area of the city fit for development. Though the risk of existing populations being displaced is low, Anthony also expressed that the project does little for people at the bottom of the economic spectrum.
