ISRC Grants Team Helps Menninga Obtain NSF Project Funding

Body

Elizabeth Menninga, associate professor of political science, received a $269,621 grant from the National Science Foundation with the help of the Iowa Social Science Research Center (ISRC) grants team. The grant will help fund a research project examining the evolution of cooperation within and across government-rebel group dyads in multi-dyadic civil conflicts.

To conduct this research, the team will create the Cooperation in Civil War: Multi-Dyad Conflicts Dataset and evaluate theoretical expectations. The dataset will cover all countries with multi-dyadic conflicts involving four or more simultaneously active government-rebel group dyads since 1989. It will also include major and minor acts of cooperation, successful and failed acts of cooperation, and both requested and realized acts of cooperation. The data will then be used to study aspects of civil conflict that have previously gone unstudied and have the potential to critically affect conflict trajectory and resolution.

The ISRC provides grant support, plus many other services for researchers on campus. Check out our website, or contact us at isrc-info@uiowa.edu.
