Reed-Fitzke Receives James N. Murray Faculty Award

Body

Kayla Reed-Fitzke, research fellow in the Social and Education Policy Research Program and assistant professor in the College of Education, received the James N. Murray Faculty Award, part of UI's 2022 Faculty and Staff Awards.

The James N. Murray Faculty Award honors an untenured and typically younger faculty member with less than six years of service at the university who has demonstrated outstanding rapport with students and strives to create an exemplary classroom atmosphere. Reed-Fitzke goes above and beyond in each of her undergraduate and graduate courses to recognize and meet the needs of her students, ensuring they feel seen, understood, and motivated. She has supported several of her students in securing funding and recognition for their work, and she volunteers as a mentor to undergraduates in research service and learning. Reed-Fitzke also works across the state as a supervisor of the LGBTQ+ free counseling clinic and serves on several university committees that work to prioritize student well-being.

Congratulations, Kayla!
