Pacheco and Novak Selected for Interdisciplinary Research Leaders

Body

Julie Pacheco, director of the Politics and Policy Research Program, has been selected to participate in one of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's leadership programs. These programs connect changemakers across the country - from every profession and field - to learn from and work with one another in creating more just and thriving communities.

Specifically, Pacheco was selected for Interdisciplinary Research Leaders. Designed for teams of one community partner and two research partners, Interdisciplinary Research Leaders supports teams as they work with their communities to design and conduct rigorous research to explore critical issues, then apply the findings in real time to advance health and equity.

As a member of the program's newest cohort, Pacheco will team up with Nicole Novak, PPC research fellow in the Crime and Justice Policy Research Program and research assistant professor in the College of Public Health, and Nicholas Salazar, President of the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC), to explore how voter suppression bills affect voting, civic engagement, and health equity for Latino communities in Iowa. Results will inform local efforts to promote inclusive, healthy communities with equitable political power and voice.
