Ain Grooms

Ain A. Grooms studies educational opportunity, with a specific focus on access and equity for Black students and other students of color in K-12 contexts. She uses the intersection of race and place to examine the impact of historical and contemporary educational policies—including school desegregation, school choice, student attendance/absenteeism, and the retention of educators of color—on student achievement.  Grooms has published in several academic journals including Education Policy, the Peabody Journal of Education, Urban Education, Education and Urban Society, the Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk, the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership, and the Journal for Research in Leadership Education.  She has presented her research at national conferences hosted by the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the University Council of Educational Administration (UCEA), and the Association of Education Finance and Policy (AEFP), and at international conferences including the World Educational Leadership Symposium and the International School Choice and Reform Conference.
