Bio

Before embarking on an academic career, Raymond Kuthy served in a clinical position and then as Dental Director, Rural Health Associates, a medical-dental group practice in Farmington, Maine (1973-1979), followed by Chief Public Health Dentist, Illinois Department of Public Health (1979-84).  Kuthy served 15 years on the faculty at the Ohio State University prior to joining the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1999. He served as department executive officer for Preventive and Community Dentistry until 2006. Kuthy is a Past President of the American Board of Dental Public Health and served as a consultant for the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors for several years. He is the recipient of a number of national awards, including the President’s Award of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (1997), Distinguished Service Award of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (2016), and the Exemplary Service Award from the Chief Dental Officer, US Public Health Service (1995). In 2007, Kuthy received the Boston University Distinguished Alumni Award.
