Bio

Rishab Nithyanand leads the Security, Privacy, and Anonymity Research Team (SPARTA Lab) in the Department of Computer Science. Before joining the faculty at Iowa, he was a Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellow at the Data & Society Research Institute (2017-18). While working on his PhD at Stony Brook University Nithyanand was co-advised by Rob Johnson and Phillipa Gill. His dissertation focused on building defenses for various attacks on the Tor anonymity network. He was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He has also worked at ICSI, Qualcomm Research, Computer Associates, and Sandia National Labs.
