Bio

David Orentlicher, MD, JD, is a professor and co-director of the Center for Law and Health at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. During the 2010-2011 academic year, he was a visiting professor of law at University of Iowa College of Law. A graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard Medical School, he previously served as director of the Division of Medical Ethics at the American Medical Association. He also was on the adjunct faculty of the University of Chicago Law School and Northwestern University Medical School.

In addition to his work in health care law, Professor Orentlicher teaches and writes on controversies in constitutional law, including affirmative action, separation of powers and partisan conflict. His current research includes a forthcoming book on the presidency. Professor Orentlicher served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 2002-2008. In 2007, he was named “Best Politician” by NUVO, Indianapolis’ alternative newspaper.
