Bio

George Malanson is the Coleman-Miller Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Iowa. He received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1983 and has been at UI since 1985. His research and teaching are in the areas of biogeography and landscape ecology. He is recognized for his book, Riparian Landscapes, which includes findings from his research along the Iowa and Cedar Rivers, as well as observations along White Breast Creek, which divides his in-law’s family farm in Marion County. He has more recently worked on the feedbacks between ecological and land use systems in Illinois, Thailand, and Ecuador.
