Katherine Valde

Katherine Valde is a senior at the University of Iowa studying political science, history, and sustainability. She is currently the President of the University of Iowa Student Government, and is the first woman to serve in this role in a decade. She is an alumna of Iowa N.E.W. Leadership, a week-long institute designed to empower women across the political spectrum and increase participation of underrepresented groups in public leadership.

Katherine has been involved in local and state politics since 2010 and was president of the University of Iowa Democrats during the 2012 election cycle. For the past three years, she has served as treasurer on the board for the local chapter of the League of Women Voters. In 2014, Katherine was named a “Rising Star” by the Democratic Activist Women’s Network.
