Liz Christiansen

Liz Christiansen has 25 years’ experience in recycling, waste reduction, green government, sustainability, outreach and education in both the private and public sectors.

As the Director of the University of Iowa Office of Sustainability, her job is to help build a green and sustainable campus by driving energy efficiency, better resource management and promoting sustainability research and teaching. An important part of her work is ensuring students have the opportunity to apply sustainability principles during their time at the University of Iowa.

Before coming to the University of Iowa, she served as deputy director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the state’s environmental protection and natural resources management department, overseeing a department with 1,100 employees and an operations budget of more than $100 million.
