Bio

Phillip Round is Professor in English and American Indian and Native Studies at the University of Iowa, where he coordinated the American Indian Studies program for four years. In 2004, he received a CIC Faculty Fellowship in American Indian Studies at the Newberry Library in Chicago. Professor Round has published three books, By Nature and By Custom Cursed: Transatlantic Civil Discourse and New England Cultural Production, 1620-1660; The Impossible Land: Story and Place in California’s Imperial Valley; and Removable Type: Histories of the Book in Indian Country, 1663-1880. He has twice been awarded J. William Fulbright Fellowships, in 1996 and 2008. He received a PhD from UCLA.
