Explore Iowa Seeking Undergraduate Peer Mentors

Body

Explore Iowa is looking for Peer Mentors! Explore Iowa is the University of Iowa's premiere exploration class, where students learn about a variety of majors, clubs and organizations, and career paths in fields as diverse as the FBI, meteorology, acting, wilderness medicine and more. Students attend events around campus and the Iowa City community and reflect on their own interests and goals.

Undergraduate Peer Mentors are responsible for leading one discussion section per week, with 10-15 first-year students, including: activity planning, field trips and guest speakers based on the week's lecture topic. In addition to their 50-minute discussion section, Peer Mentors attend a one-hour "Colloquium" each week, where they are guided by Professor Schuettpelz and a graduate fellow through the process of lesson planning and class leadership.

Peer mentors receive three semester-hours of course credit, and no teaching experience is required! Email Professor carrie-schuettpelz@uiowa.edu for more information.
