Dan Shane has extensive training in model building and econometric methods at the forefront of the field. His most recent work focuses on an impact assessment of insurance expansions on the currently uninsured, specifically how increased coverage via the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance exchanges or the dependent coverage mandate affects access to care and demand for key health services. Shane is also involved in the Public Policy Center’s evaluation of the expansion of the Iowa Medicaid program as part of the ACA, in particular how using the insurance exchanges and private insurance plans impacts outcomes for beneficiaries. His work has received recognition at national and international health economics conferences. Prior to his Ph.D., Shane spent more than 10 years as a strategic pricing analyst in the private sector, honing analytic methods to align company revenue objectives with competitive pressures amidst sales channel conflict.
