Injury Prevention and Health and Well-being Research

This area focuses on epidemiology, prevention programs, and policy approaches. Researchers examine prevention strategies for a variety of topics including bullying, intimate partner violence, workplace violence, suicide, and firearm violence. For example, Dr. Peek-Asa’s work involves international collaborations as Director of the NIH-funded international Trauma Training Program iCreate: Increasing Capacity for Research in Eastern Europe, which includes a focus on family violence prevention. As another example, Dr. Heimer and colleagues are evaluating an intervention to reduce trauma, problem behaviors, and violence in an Iowa school district.
