  • 2010-2011 ISRC Annual Report

    The ISRC has released its annual report for FY 2010-11. Highlights of the year include the reformulation of the center as a part of the Public Policy Center, and a move to a newly-renovated facility. This year the ISRC worked with 20 departments/units across campus, completing ten surveys, and providing assistance for 34 grant proposals.

  • Parent-Child Communication and HPV Vaccine

    PPC Associate Research Scientist Natoshia Askelson is currently featured on the the UI College of Public Health home page for her work assessing parents' and physicians' attitudes and intentions regarding the new human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which can protect young people from a common, sexually transmitted infection.
  • Iowa City Leads With Greener Roads

    PPC Transportation Reseacher Hosin Lee is testing a new, greener way to pave our roads. The Iowa City project will be the first warm-mix asphalt (WMA) application in the United States to use a new additive called LEADCAP (Low Energy and Low Carbon-Dioxide Asphalt Pavement). WMA takes less energy to produce and makes the environment safer for road workers.

  • Study Finds Fertilizer Contributes to Global Warming

    The source of one-third of nitrous oxide (a greenhouse gas that also destroys stratospheric ozone) in our atmosphere is unknown. A recent article coauthored by PPC Environmental researcher, Scott Spak, in Environmental Science & Technology may help to fill this gap. The team of UI researchers found that atmospheric N2O may be formed from the decomposition of ammonium nitrate, which is used as fertilizer and also found in secondary atmospheric particle pollution.
